Agnes Rowley was a loving, caring woman to all; as a grandmother to many children, a loving mother to; Alexander, the late Jane, Grace, David, Joseph and Henry. Also a very devoted wife to her late husband David Rowley. Agnes came from a very large family with relations which expanded generations. She worked all her life in many lines of work, including a biscuit factory; which her children where very pleased about. Agnes was a fun loving character. She enjoyed going out to the locals in Newtongrange and getting dressed up with all her fantastic unique jewellery. She helped out everyone who needed advice or assistance, and never did she turn anyone away. Agnes enjoyed dancing, and won lots of awards, trophies and certificates for her amazing dances. She was never off the dance floor at any event and had a very special laugh and smile, no one would forget. Agnes had a very good sense of humour, and would joke about most things with you. She was the soul of any social events and loved listening to Jim Reeves.
Sadly, Agnes did not get much out of her retirement. Around 2001/2002 Agnes very slowly started to show signs of Dementia which put a lot of strain on her husband, David, and the rest of the family. It was very heartbreaking. Agnes's husband could no longer take care of her, and therfore she was put into a care home not far from where she had lived. Shortly after, David's health got the better of him as he had a series of mini strokes, and was sadly taken on Monday 27th October 2003. This is very heartbreaking to tell, as Agnes knew hardly anything about her husbands death. Although Agnes, being Agnes, was a strong and determined woman. Although her memory was not the same, she tried her best to remember who we all where. But as the months went on, our beautiful Agnes Rowley turned into a frail woman. Sitting in her chair looking out the window, smiling as always, not knowing what was going on. We smiled back. Kept going on, that is what she would have liked us to do. A few words here and there, but we where just pleased we had the memories beforehand, looking at her. Cutting a long story short. Drawing towards the New Year of 2009 the Dementia had rolled back far too many years from Agnes, but she continued to draw a smile. There was nothing left.
Agnes then took ill at least a week before her death, although it would mean nothing to Agnes as she did not know what was going on around her. Her children took turns to help out and make sure they where with her at every moment. Agnes wouldn't open her eyes again before her death, it was all a matter of time. She was as tuff as old nails and held on toward the end of the week. Although just as the clock went around 1.35pm on Friday 6th February 2009, Agnes Orrock Rowley opened her eyes, smiled at her one of many; her Son and Granddaughter, and took her last breath. We can be sure that her husband, David is looking after her and that Agnes will continue to dance her way about above the clouds.
We send our love.

Grandmother’s Steps To Heaven
Looking across the woodlands,
as far as the eye can see.
Nana Rowley re-appears,
glancing towards me.
There used to be so many memories,
all with total joy.
Too many of us to remember our names,
She called us Jacob boy.
A lifetime of enjoyment,
with so many people, she pleased.
Making jokes to Papa Rowley,
He laughed, but we all teased.
Nana had a lovely life,
living, not causing harm.
To friends, family, neighbours too,
Agnes, the magic charm.
She solved most problems for everyone,
Caring, helping, but it wasn’t long,
that soon after years of helping out,
that Nana was no longer there to give a shout.
She built her family with
Daughters and sons,
with every breath
within her lungs.
While Nana felt
the days drag on,
it was basically like a
never ending song.
She pulled the past into the future,
Although our family needed a tutor,
to understand how Nana felt,
She would have told us,
‘You’ve got to be telt’.
We all knew what was happening,
but Nana sat there smiles and laughing.
A heartbreak we knew the future held,
We could not let go of what we loved truly dearly.
She couldn’t put her soul to rest,
Until Nana wished the family the best.
Waiting to be re-joined with her first true love,
Papa Rowley’s love was definitely enough.
Nana flew away, the 6th February 2009.
Through the woodland breeze,
She danced above the trees,
to Jim Reeves, across the floor of the top club.
There she waltzed up the
stairs in her heels,
Nana remembers how she feels.
To see her husband sitting there,
‘I love you Agnes, love you dear’
That is all Nana wanted to hear.
He took her hand
to let Nana know,
that he and her family
loved her so.
A bright coloured mist only
visible at three in the morning.
Just can’t make it
For what we are longing,
You can see, if you look carefully,
Nana and Papa side by side,
In heaven, that’s where they bide.
For one day in the distant future,
Our family together again forever and ever.
By Dean Rowley.

Memories: - The Ski Yoghurts
I remember when I was little, you bought ski yoghurts and you said you bought them fresh. So with me being a child, I just agreed.. haha, and you took them out, placed one on the table and gave me a spoon.
So as I opened it and put the spoon in.. the bloody thing wouldn't move.
YOU PUT THEM IN THE FREEZER! :D Ahahahahaha! :)
You thought you had to freeze them! Hahaa!
That is a memory I will never forget.. you just looked at me as if to say.. well.. it's better either way. It's only yoghurts! Haha! :)
Love you. x
